Apple overcomes early iPhone 4 issues
Whatever the political climate, when a new Apple product drops the world goes slightly mad - Apple sceptics find new ways to mock and the Apple faithful find new superlatives to describe the beloved California brand. Whichever camp you sit in, you’ve probably been entirely unable to avoid the furore around this latest Apple iPhone update, the Apple iPhone 4.
Unfortunately for Apple much of the fuss has been over reported reception issues when users hold the device in their left hand. One Apple conference and a few free phone covers later and Apple seems back on track, collecting rave reviews for the iPhone 4.
Apple iPhone 4: One step beyond
Despite the reception palaver, as you would imagine the iPhone 4 is absolutely packed full of features. In terms of cosmetics, the device is available in the Apple standards of white or black, and capacity is similarly iPhone 3 consistent, with flash drive sizes of 16GB or 32GB.
So where does the iPhone 4 improve upon its predecessor? Well, firstly, design and build; critics have been lauding praise on Apple for the notable advances in quality of the device. Arguably the standout feature of Apple’s updated product is (predictably) the new screen, which has a higher resolution and has been described as having the pixel perfect presence of magazine print – impressive.
The camera also gets a boost, with 5-megapixels packed into the lens (photo quality arguably being one of the iPhone 3’s disappointments). Video recording is in the vogue HD format, able to grab 30 frames per second with audio – fancy. Connectivity, last but not least, is standard procedure for Apple, with Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA, GSM/EDGE & Bluetooth 2.1 all squeezed in - not forgetting assisted GPS.
Still the phone to beat: Apple iPhone reinvention
It remains to be seen whether Apple has weathered the reception storm that forced Apple CEO Steve Jobs to (no doubt reluctantly) admit that, "We're not perfect" – and Microsoft's chief operating officer, Kevin Turner, to go one step further by dubbing the iPhone 4 Apple’s own Vista (Microsoft’s problem-plagued OS). However, what cannot be doubted is Apple supporters’ unwavering fascination with the brand, which will surely receive another boost to its almost deity-like presence. After all, Apple has already posted record orders for the new iPhone 4 – and if reported phone reception cut-out on a mobile phone doesn’t deter consumers, nothing will.
