Do you need mobile phone insurance?
Our mobile phone can be one of the most expensive things we own. In today’s busy world, some people choose not to buy cars, or invest in property and other large purchases, and quite often the clothes on our backs and gadgets in our backpacks are the most valuable things we own. It can make sense, then, to seek out mobile phone insurance.
Insuring your mobile phone
There are several reasons why you would consider insuring your mobile phone. If you are on a mobile phone contract that locks you in for a certain amount of years – basically until you pay the cost of the handset off – then it makes sense to have your phone insured. If you were to lose your phone two months into a two-year contract and you had no insurance, you would find yourself paying out the rest of the contract for a phone that you no longer can use – not a situation most people want to find themselves in.
Also consider insuring your mobile phone if you have paid out your contract or you bought the phone outright in the first place. In the days of pre-paid phones it’s easy to slip your SIM card into a handset and start using it as if it were yours – when in reality you may have just picked it up off the bus seat. If you were on the receiving end of this just after purchasing a $1,000 Smartphone, and you had no insurance, you’d probably be feeling considerably frustrated.
Getting mobile phone insurance
Most carriers offer mobile phone insurance as part of their start-up contracts on new phones and cap services. It is worthwhile considering taking out insurance from the outset. That way you will always be covered, and although you should always look after your mobile phone it would be good to know that if anything bad did happen and you lost it you could have it replaced thanks to your insurance.
When shopping around for mobile phone insurers, be sure to insist upon a fast replacement and turnaround service. If you lose your phone you may also lose your only mode of contact, so you want to make sure that your insurer has a fast and simple claims process that gets you back into action as quickly as possible.
